KANGANEWS AWARDS 2016: WINNERS ANNOUNCED
KangaNews Awards methodology and key changes for 2016
Since their inception at the end of 2007, KangaNews's annual awards have been based purely on the votes of market participants. We do not employ an awards committee or ask for supporting documentation for nominations. Instead, we conduct a thorough and intensive polling of those involved in the Australian and New Zealand debt markets.
In 2016, KangaNews reviewed and revised several awards categories to ensure they best reflect the shape of the market in Australia and New Zealand. Key changes were as follows:
• The Australian bond house categories have been realigned to best represent firms' expertise in different debt sectors. Specifically, KangaNews is now awarding the best performers in primary and secondary markets for Australian dollar rates, credit, and the supranational, sovereign and agency sectors.
• Above all these categories, KangaNews has introduced an Australian Dollar Bond House of the Year category to reward excellence across sectors.
• To reflect the growing internationalisation of the Australian dollar market, the Australian Dollar Financial Institution Bond Deal of the Year and the Australian Dollar Corporate Bond Deal of the Year now cover all relevant transactions in the currency – whether issued by domestic or international ("Kangaroo") entities.
• A new category has been added for Australian Trustee of the Year.
• The offshore deal categories now include both Australian and New Zealand issuers, giving New Zealand companies their first chance to be awarded for international transactions.
• New categories have been added to reward New Zealand service providers: New Zealand Law Firm of the Year and New Zealand Rating Agency of the Year.
• For the first time, innovative deals of the year are awarded in both the Australian and New Zealand markets.
After an extensive vote verification process and testing of the validity of results, KangaNews is confident that the KangaNews Awards 2016 truly represent the views of the market on the outstanding performers of 2016.
The KangaNews Awards also include a handful of individual categories, the results of which have not been announced. Individual categories were awarded at the KangaNews Awards Gala Dinner at the Ivy Ballroom in Sydney on Tuesday 21 March 2017. The dinner once again supported Cure Cancer Australia.
